Worship Centres
Christ Church 9am:
Every Sunday except fifth: Eucharist service using the New Zealand Prayer Book of about 60 minutes duration. Hymns, from a variety of sources, are accompanied by the pipe organ. On the fourth Sunday of each month, the parish choir helps support our singing.
The service is followed by fellowship over morning tea, which is combined with the congregation arriving for the 10.30am service.
Christ Church 10.30am:
First and third Sundays. Family Worship involving contemporary songs accompanied by a music team, testimonies, bible reading, preaching.
Second and fourth Sundays. Family Communion of a contemporary style, broadly in keeping with our Anglican family roots. Contemporary songs accompanied by a music team.
A children’s ministry programme is offered during term time. During the holidays a children’s talk is usually included in the service and children’s activities are provided for the children to undertake where they are seated. About once a term we have an all age service.
Morning tea occurs before the service, as we join with the congregation from the 9am service.
On the second Sunday of each month a shared lunch follows the service.
Christ Church 7pm, fourth Sunday:
Prayer and Praise. An informal service focused on waiting on God. Come and join us for a space to breathe and dwell in the presence of God through sung worship and prayer.
St Chad’s 9.45am, First and third Sundays of the month:
Eucharist service using the New Zealand Prayer Book and Mission Praise.
“St Chad’s is a small friendly Church on St Johns Hill with a traditional service at 9.45am which is meaningful for the 40-50 worshippers who attend twice a month.
We fellowship over morning tea and are very supportive of each other.”
St Oswald’s 10am, First Sunday of the month:
Family Communion service, using a variety of liturgical sources and a variety of hymns and songs. Home baking is a feature of the morning tea that follows the service. Children are welcome, and children’s activity time is provided in a side room during the sermon.
St John’s : 11am
First Sunday of the month:
A service of Morning Prayer, drawing on our deep Anglican heritage but made more contemporary in its language. Hymns are sung.
Third Sunday of the month – Eucharist, following the New Zealand Prayer Book.
Members of the congregation often gather after services at a hotel or café for fellowship.
St Mary’s 11am: Second Sunday of the month:
Eucharist, following the New Zealand Prayer Book. Hymns are sung.
Members of the congregation often gather after services at a nearby café for fellowship.
All Saints 10am Wednesday:
The congregation is a small gathering of mostly older folk who enjoy each others company, and as neighbours also meet socially. Eucharist is led and sermon delivered by the rostered priest. This service is without music and liturgy is read from the NZ Prayer Book. The atmosphere is relaxed, prayerful, warm and welcoming. Many choose to extend their time together by meeting for coffee at a nearby cafe where a large table is set aside for ‘the church people’.
St Peter’s 1pm Wednesday:
A 45 minute, clergy led, traditional New Zealand Prayer Book service. We often sing one hymn, and follow the service with a time of fellowship around a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits.
